Pilates is functional exercise. It helps one become a higher functioning human. For this reason, it can be described as a pedestrian exercise program with corrective exercise objectives. Through a complex leveled system, Pilates uses scientifically designed exercises and equipment to assist in developing the most balanced physique with equal parts strength, flexibility, balance, cardiovascular and pulmonary health. It drives the body to achieve a more complete range of motion and accompanying strength for normal and natural human movement. The creator of Pilates and designer of all the equipment was Joseph Pilates.  He called his codified system Contrology.  Mr. Pilates said Contrology involved mastering our body through the mind while completely coordinating both with the spirit to achieve our best health.
